The Boardgame Cafe, KL

In spite of the myriad video, PC and mobile games available out there with their superb graffics and real time action, there’s something to be said for the good old board game. Perhaps it’s the fact that a board game requires actual face-to-face interaction between at least 2 people. The social aspect of the board game does have its charms.

So I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this website run by and for a community of board gamers: The Boardgame Caf” . The Boardgame Caf” is actually a locally based group of people who organize regular board gaming meetings and events centered around the board game, like their recent Halloween party, complete with a Horror Chamber and games with apt names like “Zombies” and “Betrayal at House on the Hill”.

They seem a rather active group of gamers as is evidenced by their website which features sections on new and upcoming board games (I didn’t know there were so many out there!), discussion forums and updates on their get togethers. They’re also a rather diverse bunch of peole ” from hardcore Scrabble aficionados to RPGers (the latest crazy is a game about immigrants to a newly populated island, called the Settlers of Catan). Obviously, it’s nice to see that in this virtual day and age, actual human interaction and old school dice and cards still hold a place of their own.
