Go Forth and Multiplyyy!

Multiply boasts that it’s a secure network, a family-friendly media sharing site where you can easily “create, share, and discuss your blogs, photos, and videos with more of the people you know, and fewer with the people you don’t know”.

That’s always how social networking sites start out don’t they? Family-friendly, safe, and for you to link up with folks you know and keep tight within the family. Then faster than you can say “whuttt”, you have strangers adding you to their accounts, and you concede.

I joined Multiply a couple of years ago after getting tired of Friendster and Myspace, then gave it up after signing up with Facebook.

It was kind of a mix between MySpace and Facebook, with the allowance of videos that can be uploaded (a Facebook favourite), and being able to customise the look of your page, and adding songs to your profile (a Myspace triumph).

While it’s not even remotely as popular as Facebook is in our country, Multiply did take a hold for a while, and I think it is still trodding along in terms of membership. This is why I picked this networking site. It’s amazing that after being battered by Facebook, there’s still “13 million members uploading more than 3,000,000 photos, and there are 20,000 videos uploaded every day”. Hopefully this statistic is not skewed to fit a marketing angle.
