GOTH FASHION has emerged as a return to austerity from the color explosion of the mid 2000’s. It has gone so far that girls everywhere are shaving the sides of their heads and I know several people who only wear black. This trend is huge in NY.

CONSERVATISM has gradually and almost completely taken over. Preppie looks, short classic haircuts, deck shoes, collared shirts, Ralph Lauren, wire frame Ray-Bans. I almost never see rocker fashion or even shaggy hair in Manhattan (unless it’s really long)
LOOSE PANTS are cool again for guys and girls: Pleated slacks. Loose and tapered pants. Harem pants for girls and gays. Tight pants are just not as cool as they used to be seeing as the rest of America just got over baggy jeans.
VACATION WEAR is still hip – but in a less tacky ironic way. Highwater pants and yachting clothes. Looking like you are on “holiday” – which Americans are not ever on – is very hip.
CALIFORNIA DREAMS fashion is also very chic. Combine 90210, classic Hollywood, Roy Orbison and David Lynch. The result is striped shirts, wayfarers, short pompadour-like hair, shorts, and classic vans.
