The Almighty Defenders

After the very disappointing “ressurgance” of psychadelic pop (mgmt, empire of the sun, animal collective etc.) I’m glad that garage bands are finally getting their act together. I’m really looking forward to the first album from The Almighty Defenders (Black Lips and KingKhan & The Shrines) as well as the latest band from the Dead Moon guys, called Pierced Arrows. Here’s a clip of them doing a Neil Young cover.

New electronic music on the whole is tediously generic at the moment but The XX are strangely refreshing because of their simplicity, whereas everyone else is trying to outdo each other with weird effects and making sounds out of drainpipes. Islands and VCR are annoyingly catchy and get better with every listen.
