Rare Invention in Spanish TV makes Good Viewing

Spanish TV is aimed squarely at the mainstream, and there’s little room for invention. The exceptions that spring to mind are Callejeros and Muchachada Nui

Callejeros is an investigative reporting show, which goes behind the scenes on a number of issues from prostitution to fetish communities to the shanty towns on the edge of Madrid. It’s a little old school, but some of the interviews and things they manage to film make good viewing.

Muchachada Nui is a comedy/sketch show about to go into it’s 4th season. It’s a departure for Spanish comedy; irreverent and surreal, with more in common with Monty Python or the Mighty Boosh than the prime-time one-liners of El Gran Wyoming or Benafuente.
