Internet Feedback Loop

As the internet continues to be a feedback loop of information, some of it grows into amorphous monsters like the “Blob” and some of it composes post-collage pop art.

Jah Jah Sphinx is some of the best google-image-searched visual essays that still exists. This form of visual communication was an outgrowth of a specific type of myspace-comment-inspired art that came about around four years ago. Artists/people searched image banks with words such as “telekinesis” and “acid cult” and juxtaposed the best findings into a narrative. It was kinda like collaging elements but quicker and cheaper, lending a rawness to the aesthetic. The randomness of the images created new narratives which related to the fragmented new creative culture that was developing. You would see bands post back and forth on each other’s myspaces like a dialogue of new ideas- mostly the ideas dealt with other states of consciousness and trippy stuff like that, as well as ultra-absurd humor.

On the dark side of internet feedback is the blog Stuff You Will Hate. This is culture created by the internet, then fed back into it until it creates more and more psychologically twisted culture, testing the bounds of morality. This is really a “love to hate” scenario. His sick fascination with this music and these people has in a sense made him a devoted follower, though he realizes the paradoxes involved with appreciating it. A friend of mine said that on tour his band became obsessed with bands like “Brokencyde” and “Attack Attack.” At first they hated it with all their soul, but as their obsession grew they realized they enjoyed listening to it and hating it. It is music made for the video-game, torture video, pornography, celebrity and body image obsessed youth. So many paradoxes. So compelling. If I could get over how viscerally repulsed I am by all of this I could write a book on this stuff. Beware: this site is a black hole.

Here is a video I found on it. The genre is “donk-core.” Try not to barf.
