Mischa Barton and Reece Daniel Thompson. Guess who the underdog hero is?

If you like Assassination of a High School President, you’ll like The Brothers Bloom. Though the movies have completely different directors, writers, and actors, they’re united by a sense of timelessness, a sense that script and logic are less important than maintaining a sense that the films are transporting their viewer to a specific unreal place. In The Brothers Bloom, that place is a cross between post-war Europe, 70′s era international adventurism (tramp steamers, desolate Mexican coasts, rich heiresses), and modern-era black humor. In Assassination of a High School President, the place is a hardboiled detective novel take on high school SAT paranoia (think Brick, with more emphasis on humor). Though they’re not great, both Assassination of a High School President and The Brothers Bloom provide a nice break for your inner escapist.
