I’ve recently got back from New York, and was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of good press Barcelona band Delorean have been getting off the back of their Ayrton Senna EP. It’s about time someone gave them recognition, as they’ve been one of the only Spanish bands to be consistently innovative over the last few years. It’s just a shame that the Spanish press doesn’t have the same eye for a good thing as they do across the Atlantic.
Last month I talked briefly about PPM records having a great website. This month, one of their acts, The Gun Outfit have released one of my favourite records. It’s remarkable for being unapologetically influenced by north west coast bands like Nirvana without sounding like, er, Bush. No small feat.

Continuing on the early nineties vien, my favourite new spanish band are called Cuerpos. They write dirgy two chord art rock songs, drenched in distorsion and capped by howled female vocals.

Also, Pavement have recently been announced as the headline act of Primavera Sound, which, along with ATP, is the most credible festival in Europe. All of this leads me to think that this is probably the best time to be nostalgic for the early nineties before someone trots out a grunge version of the Sugababes.
