You know those late nights when you’re on a friend’s sofa, huddled round a laptop and someone tells you to find something funny on youtube? I was in that situation the other night and I froze. Because I just don’t know what’s funny anymore. Things like the Keyboard cat and Autotune the News are old already; the subject of inane bar-room chat, icebreakers between people who have nothing in common apart from a penchant for draft beer and american apparel.
Since The Office, it seems anything embarassing is funny. But similar fictional shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the more surreal but still in the same vein Tim and Eric, don’t make me laugh as much as unintentional real life instances.
A prime example is the video for the David Guetta ft, Akon track ‘Sexy Chick’.
The video’s budget and the lyrics are ridiculous, but everytime I see David Guetta’s smug face with his 2003 Toni and Guy haircut and huge sunglasses, I can’t help but laugh. While cringing, obviously.
