Looking good in Leather

Montrealers were born to flaunt it regardless of the season, and fall is a fashion-lover’s paradise as it lends itself to the creative layering of garments and accessories.

If there was one item that I would say defined the fall look this year, however, it is the cropped black leather jacket.  Worn over dresses it exudes an air of urban sensuality; worn over pants it looks badass, yet somehow put together.

The local clothing label FIG is making more strides to conquer every women’s wardrobe with their new fall line and rapidly expanding Voyage line of comfortable knit dresses, shirts, pants, and tunics, especially lightweight for travelling.  There is something about that sleek sexy femininity,  combined with Montreal’s notorious fashion sensibility that just works.

Accessory-wise, things are bold and feminine.  I have seen some mini-veils amid soirees, loft parties, and posh restaurants.  Not for the faint of heart, this look is edgy and takes a lot of attitude to pull off, but oozes mystery and sex appeal.  For maximum mystery, wear it pinned with a flower to the side part, or pair it with a modern feminine adaptation of the classic top hat, a quick fix for a bad hair day, or just an excuse to tip your hat and bat your eyelashes.
