As a makeup aficionado as well as someone with unnaturally bright red hair, I love the colorful world (wide website) of Xenia, aka Miss Doe Deere of doedeereblogazine.com. Her blog doles out makeup tutorials, advice and style diaries, but the best part is that she actually has her own line of ultra-vivid eye dusts and lipsticks called Lime Crime. I’ve ordered a few myself and I’m definitely a fan of her “Candyfuture” movement to brighten up the universe.
Besides makeup, I’m also a junkie for online news. I try to limit how much time I spend reading but sometimes I just can’t help myself. CNN recently redesigned their site and I hate it – now when you click links you can’t tell if it’s a story or a video piece. I want to read news dammit, not watch it! As an anglophile I love reading The Guardian (especially the weekly columns by whip-smart comedian David Mitchell – my nerd crush – and hilariously misanthropic media reviewer Charlie Brooker), and for my two cents BBC News can always be counted upon for unbiased quality.
Musically I love oddball finds and random recordings, so I’ve added Unheard 78 to my blog reader. The site posts high-quality MP3s of rarities, unreleased recordings and other obscurities. I’ve never been a big illegal downloader but if it’s music I can’t buy even if I wanted to, I have no qualms clicking “Save Link As”.
