A restaurant/bar opened in Greenpoint near McCarren park entitled “The Manhattan Inn,” and though I haven’t been there it SEEMS to be an example of how to run a successful room. For one- it is kind of under wraps, and not attractive to people from New Jersey yet, and secondly, it seems to be the conglomeration of about 10 good ideas. It is from the owners of Glasslands- a venue that is part warehouse venue/ part niteclub where people get laid. Here is what Eater.com said: The bar and restaurant serves New American cuisine from chef Justin Farmer. Fancy cocktails, sourcing from Rooftop Farms, repurposed design details, you know the drill. And on that sweet, sweet baby grand? Ragtime.
There is a piano in the center of the restaurant playing Ragtime! exposed wood! Not very expensive! One guy I met said it was good! It’s on.
Another bar opened in South Williamsburg that takes the low road but also succeeds in being a place that people actually enjoy going- The Woods. It has a huge backyard with a taco truck that people say is great and isn’t as nasty as Union Pool which has these same things. These are places that know their demographic and know how to get the right people there, and by right I mean less douchey.
