Toronto’s popular West Queen West neighbourhood and surrounding area- seemingly home to every hipster and artist or hipster artist wannabes- is hosting many festive parties over the coming month. One favourite event of mine, Steers & Queers, is holding a Gay Olde Oprey at the The Dakota Tavern.
The event will feature some of Toronto’s best queer performers working hard to put the putting Queer back in Country, as it should be. The Dakota is also know for it’s amazing weekend brunch.
The Gladstone Hotel dominates the landscape in this part of town acting as the gathering place of choice for many locals given the bar and restaurant, event spaces and artist designed hotel rooms. This is especially true this holiday season with the Gladstone hosting the annual Holiday Quickie gathering for Toronto’s Artist Run Centres, as well as its usual roster of weekly events, like Karaoke with host Peter Styles that packs in the crowds.
The West Queen West area is also famous for its independent art galleries including AWOL on Ossington Avenue, which recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary great. AWOL was one of the first galleries to open on the formerly downtrodden (and dangerous) Ossington and today that street is booming and packed with galleries, bars and restaurants.

Thanks for the article! Steers and Queers is EXCELLENT! Lauren Hortie who runs it is pretty much a genius.
