Until I started blogging for this site, I never truly realized how much my life revolves around the vintage. Apparently you could transport me to the late 70′s and I’d be happier than a fat tick on a skinny dog. So continuing with the theme, I thought I’d link together three bands that I listen to almost daily. These three bands deeply influenced underground rock and paved the way from punk to post-punk. They were deeply experimental, truly loud and changed music forever.
The Modern Lovers, fronted by geeky, funny Jonathan Richman, have keys to my heart. They mainly croon about their hometown, Boston, heartache, and crushes.

The Feelies, originally from Jersey, like the The Modern Lovers, never achieved major commercial success but were deeply influential to many bands, specifically R.E.M. All of their albums were recently reissued. They sound pretty boss.

Admittedly, if it weren’t for the Velvet Underground, neither of these wonderful bands would exist. I, sadly, can no longer listen to the Velvets due to high school overkill, where I would play “I’ll Be Your Mirror” on repeat for hours while locked in my room brooding. Despite this, I have recently discovered the Velvet’s underappreciated bandmate John Cale‘s solo career. I’ve been listening a bit obsessively to this song.
