Winter is the season of both hard work and procrastination, and the world wide web offers a plethora of excuses to waste just a little more time doing nothing particularly important, but amusing nonetheless. Over the holidays, my inbox was flooded with various sorts of online Christmas paraphernalia – personalized Christmas songs and dances from my friends or other notorious persons made using Elf Yourself, and cheeky e-cards from Some-e-cards.com.
Both offer a relatively quick and painless way to send your loved (or n0t-so-loved) ones a hint of holiday cheer. Some-e-cards is a little more cliche, but with user-rated ready-made cards for any occasion (not just Christmas), many of which incorporate pop-culture references such as Facebook and Farmiville, it offers the perfect three-click alternative to the traditional pen and cardboard greeting card.
When I wasn’t busy shopping, eating copious amounts of food or engaging in other sorts of holiday activities, I decided to take advantage of the time off by doing something that I have needed to do for far too long–cleaning up my desktop background. In doing so, I quickly realized that to complete the transformation I would require a slick new desktop background and some new icons. A girlfriend of mine suggested I take a look at Pixiegirlpresents.com for a background, and through my own meanderings I also found a link to a great site with some free desktop icons: Seanau.com. In record time, my computer was newly accessorized, and it is so much easier to focus now that my desktop is squeaky-clean. I must confess though, once the 1st hit I felt compelled to replace my Santa Hard drive icon with something a little more umm… normal.
