When I moved to NY I was worried that the food culture was bad. I mean it kinda is- sandwiches on bad rolls, pizza, hot dogs (are we 9?), terrible thai food, Polish food(?). Burgers, Ramen, and Pho are ok but everything else either costs 5 disgusting dollars or 100. Aristocrat food or food for jackhammerers. Recently my mind has kinda changed and it is because of restaurants such as the recently opened restaurants, Roman’s in Fort Greene and Northern Spy Food Company in Alphabet City. These restaurants serve food that is affordable and gourmet in a cool atmosphere. Seasonable, sustainable ingredients and inspired menus. There aren’t enough of these places really, but these are a nice addition to the group that includes Marlowe and Sons, Vinegar Hill House, and Diner.
