Funk me Up, Funk me Down

I’m going to let you in on a little secret when it comes to music: almost everybody loves the funk.   Luckily, 2009 was a fantastic year for music and in the funk department, artists like Trus’me, Rick Wade, Chateau Flight, and Holgar Zilske have been dishing out some seriously tasty beats.Trus’me’s album In the Red that is getting rave reviews from industry heavyweights like Gilles Peterson and novice listeners alike.  Its soul-drenched deep melodies are infectious, seductive, and oh-so-smooth.  My fav cuts on this LP are ‘Bail Me Out’ with its electro-tinged vocoded vocals and smooth violin-esque synths atop a killer bassline, and Sucker which sounds like it came straight from the 70’s.  Dee-lish!

Rick Wade’s album Harmonie Park is a little deeper and more housey, but the real secret gems in my opinion are Chateau Flight’s remix of Spectral Empire’s Innerfearance and Holgar Zilske’s ‘Mes Yeux’.  No words can describe how this music makes me feel.  W-o-w !
