Imaginarium at Soviet-era cinema hall

Coming back from the opening night of Terry Gulliam’s ‘Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’, I have to admit it was as surrealistic as it was supposed to be. The screening took place at recently reopened Soviet-era cinema hall ‘Pioneer’ with all its bizarre and silly grandeur and splendid entourage.

Although the movie is a little dull (compared to  Gulliam’s previous work), it really works as a good remedy from the harsh extremes of winter in Moscow.

Cold winter would also benefit to a pompous release of Tim Burton‘s ‘Alice in Wonderland‘ which will definitely gather a huge crowd of frost-bitten Muscovites to enjoy another brilliant work from the director who has been always infernally good in marrying fantasy with the hot-topics of a present day.

Tim Burton’s fairy novels are in demand again with him having been chosen as a head of jury for the Cannes festival this year. It looks like on the back of financial chaos, on-going wars and falling planes his magic world has a double magnetic allure.
