Andrew Kovalev is a grey-figure of Moscow concept-stores business. He has been standing behind the best stores selling independent designers in Russia, so nobody was actually astonished when he came up with a beautiful sequel to his collection. The new project has a queer name ‘Mood Swings Apartment Stores’ and is designed purely for women.
This place is very close to a few other Kovalev’s stores – Kixbox Zing and UK Style – and is placed in a normal 4-rooms apartment on the ground floor. The interior is a bit eclectic and babelized with 1960s-styled walpapers, playing cards, acid plastic furniture and stairs which lead to nowhere. Here you’d find schizophrenic wardrobes for the party girls who always end up in trouble.
‘Mood Swings Apartment Stores’ is structured according to the types of mood. They have a special corner for the ‘Girls don’t cry’ and another selection for ‘Funny night out’. The spectrum of brands is surprising – from JC Castelbajac and Band of Outsiders to Wunderkind, Undercover and Bless and many others. All this circus-atmosphere might be a bit annoying except for the ‘talking mirrors’ which is a very thoughtful invention indeed.
