Remember when you couldn’t turn around without being sucked dry by Vampire shwag? So do I, as I was a teen in the 90’s. Anne Rice, Interview With A Vampire, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Lost Boys… these things were extremely popular with the same theme then. So to force everyone to relive it so soon is devastating to me. Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Twilight…why all at once? Maybe today’s teenage goths don’t remember, but I sure do. The simple fact remains: IT’S BEEN DONE.
That said, there is nothing anyone could say or do to make me have any interest in this series. I want to watch movies with heart, soul, original ideas and new themes, or at least the pretense of new themes. I think in order to promote interest, the age-old promote to high-hell theme seems best: On high school or college campuses, posters and flyers, billboards, bookstores, promo trades with trendy boutiques or franchises, sponsoring a Vampire -themed fashion show with Summit as the sponsor, prizes and cross promotions with popular teen brands, Summit promo parties with blood/Vampire-themed drinks…
…Maybe even some sort of prize including a Vampire-themed date. Summit ‘bottles of Blood’ red wine or candy. And always, stuff being mass-produced for mall shoppers from posters to fangs to bottles of blood. For some reason, Vampire-theme, like animal print, refuses to die in modern culture. So my thoughts are simply to promote these films until they are so deeply embedded in the collective subconscious that everyone will have no choice but to want to see them.
