This week I headed down to the second largest town in Sweden, Gothenburg on business.
I’ve been here a number of times before but this time a store concept from Stockholm opened its doors – Grandpa with a fun and very busy party. Also round the corner I got to see Nya Skolan, a new gallery space dealing with some of the interesting new young art coming out in Sweden, this time showing illustrations by Joakim Ojanen. In Stockholm its equivalent is SteinslandBerliner and in Malmö it is Loyal, they sometimes have a bit of a crossover in artists. I tried out the Avalon Hotel, Gothenburg’s highly rated design hotel which was pleasant, but as with most hotels saying they are ‘designed’, I find flaws in the design and irritating elements to my stay such as the plink-plonk music and birdcalls piped out over breakfast.
