Those of you who are familiar with the theme of Vladimir Nobokov’s controversial and unconventional piece of literature, Lolita, may find it hard to understand that this is, in part, a review of fashion derived from the 90′s film adaptation, starring Jeremy Irons and Dominique Swain. Lolita, a nymphet character, wears 1940′s rompers, has tiny Alpinian braids pinned atop her head, ankle socks, black and white oxford shoes, and a slash of bright red lipstick on an otherwise freshly-scrubbed face.
At other times, she wears an enviable two-piece ensemble, pictured above. In no way do I approve of the idea of any childhood fetish, but I find it interesting that the novel is written with the main villain being someone you have a hard time not feeling sorry for. Based on a very dark and complex piece of literature, it is interesting to watch the way it unfolds onscreen.
Say what you will about the theme, Lolita’s got hot fashion sense.
