Make no mistake, TV will continue to migrate online and on-demand. While Hulu might not be the future vehicle of TV as we know it, the concept of TV online whenever we want it is. People are busy, and only getting busier because of a weak economy. People no longer have to schedule time around their favorite shows. If they miss it, they can check it out online at a network site or flip to OnDemand from their cable provider. Or, if they know they’ll miss it in advance, they can set their DVR to record it.
I think people would be willing to pay a small subscription for online TV as long as it completely ad-free. Otherwise, no. Why would we pay for the convenience of watching something online and then still be interrupted and forced to sit through advertisements? Online TV will work best when free with ads incorporated, or as a subscription service completely ad-free. I don’t see people allowing a whole lot of wiggle room on the concept.
I don’t see much use for 3D television, unless it’s used for comic effect. I would love to see David Caruso deliver one of his famous one-liners in 3D during CSI: Miami, but I would stop watching TV entirely if I had to sit through 3D episodes of my favorite dramatic, artfully shot shows. 3D is a gimmick, and should be kept to gimmicky genres.
