Cut Up Yer Pants

Disclaimer: This post isn’t about a new fashion. It is about a change in fashion.

As an old fogy, I remember a few years back when guys started wearing jean cut offs again. It started with bike kids cutting the legs off their skinny jeans, spread to punks and artists, and eventually hit the (hip) mainstream last summer when literally every pair of shorts I saw was actually a pair of re-purposed jeans – no khaki or cargo jean in site.

This summer, the major clothing labels have started getting with the program. Most notably, Levi’s is carrying a precut version of their 511′s. Among my friends, the adoption of a trend by big clothing labels tends to signal the end of that trend’s lifestyle. But so far, cutoff jeans (both store bought and handmade) are still going strong. I guess there’s just not a whole lot of clothing options for guys over the summer.
