So, in France they’re going to ban use of the Burka…
I was in Paris recently and curiously nobody I spoke to cared one way or another about the ban. Most people either dismissed it as a politcal strategy on Sarko’s part to get the right to vote for him in the forthcoming elections.
Paris is a weird city for fashion anyway. People can have more or less style, but everyone, from old women to gypsy looking teenagers to bike couriers coordinate. Sitting on any of the street terraces (which incedently seem designed for people watching – All the seats face outwards) for 15 minutes is like seeing a years worth of Vice’s do’s and don’ts stroll past.
Barcelona on the other hand seems divided between people who make the effort to look good and the rest of the world who couldn’t care less. I guess with the spring, more and more stylish people are coming out of hibernation (or arriving on easy jet flights). In menswear, As the summer progresses, i expect to see more of the hipster elegance that took over northern europe last year. The suit jackets with the narrow lapels, and leather shoes without socks. At the moment though everything seems very much stuck in the Skater/ Hipster paradigm that has ruled barcelona for the last 5 years. Could we get that banned?
