Art, Culture & Ideas on the Internet

Madison Brookshire is an artist who creates films, videos and music. He also writes.I’ve seen his writing pop up in the Bright Lights Film Journal, but mostly I read it on his blog, where here writes about art, culture and politics (see another of my posts this month about some of his video work). He recently posted a series of entries called Mark So Appreciations, which includes a facsimile of a typewritten letter with some really fascinating ideas and thoughts about So’s work (and Brookshire’s as well). The entries range from embedded videos to intelligently written short essays on art, and are always interesting.

Another interesting place to read about art is Fillip’s website. An art journal published in Vancouver, they started out fairly modestly with just a print edition, but have since expanded to include panel discussions in Canada & the United States, commissions, curated exhibitions, and an extensive online selection of podcasts & essays. For the next two months a new essay on the topic of art & publicness will appear every Monday. It’s an interesting journal, and all the past issues are up online.
