I’m a bit of an H.P. Lovecraft fan, but haven’t read anything for a while. Over a recent lunch -due to a discussion about a forthcoming feature in a Swedish magazine on fashion, magic, Kenneth Anger and Alan Moore- Lovecraft came up in the conversation.
Following this reminder, I began looking up the other occult-related films and books we discussed that I hadn’t read or watched in the past. That evening I realised that even though Lovecraft was highly influential, no one has managed to release any films (of worth) based on his books.
I did discover that The Whisperer in the Darkness is to be released by Cthulu Lives, and looks like it could be decent for a low-budget movie. Since that discovery, I was even happier to learn that Guillermo Del Toro is to direct a big budget version of Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness. As I also admire Del Toro’s work, it’s great news for all Lovecraft fans.
