I was surprised never to have heard of this film as it came out so many years ago. Moonlight Mile stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Ben, with Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon as his fiancée’s grieving parents. The film immediately gets heavy as we learn Ben’s wife-to-be was shot three days before. Stricken with grief, his would-be parents in-law take him in and attempt to set up a business with him as they had planned to before. What Ben doesn’t count on is meeting a beautiful and charismatic barkeep so soon after losing his lady.
This movie really explores guilt, shame, hurt, confusion, closure, acceptance and forfeiting emotions.
