Everybody’s talking about Inception but I have had more than enough of Leonardo DiCaprio. I can’t bring myself to see it despite the steller reviews it is unanimously receiving from my friends, who have swooned over it, describing it as ‘incredible’, a ‘head trip,’ and a ‘Memento-esque masterpiece.’
I don’t have anything specifically against Leonardo DiCaprio, I just think he is too distinctly recognizable as Leonardo DiCaprio regardless of the role he’s playing. Whether he’s a young adventurous traveller in The Beach, a young lover in Romeo and Juliet or Titanic, his DiCaprio-esque-ness always gushes out of the screen with a vengeance.

The next time I go to the cinema I plan to hit up Rubber, the new film by the French electro superstar Mr. Oizo (alias: Quentin Dupieux). This is the first feature film by the man who made a yellow stuffed animal called Flat Eric famous in his music video for electro megahit “Flat Beat.” Rubber is about a rubber tire named Robert that has been abandoned in the desert. Robert turns dangerous and goes on a tear, wreaking havoc on random objects, desert creatures, and humans who dare to cross his path. Call me juvenile, but I would much prefer laughing my ass off watching a movie about such ridiculousness than trying to unravel the techno-psychology behind Inception.
