It’s a funny thing when you hear people making fun of hipsters for making fun of bands for making it big and getting mainstream attention. It never really effects the band’s sound, just how many people are hearing it. But, judging on the first few episodes from the current season of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, it’s apparent that success has changed the format of the show.I can’t claim to be a fan of the show since its first season, I’m one of those “lamestreamers” that hipsters would make fun of because I caught on after it had developed a rabid cult following and everyone talked about it. But the great part about the show is how you never had to watch it from the beginning to know what was going on. Each episode was self-contained and most of the loose ends tied up in the 30 minutes it was on the air. Some jokes might be recurring, but there wasn’t a long arc within the season. Now that the show has found spectacular success with Charlie Day now appearing in romantic comedies and Green Man becoming a meme that’s bigger than the show, the show’s format has changed as well. This season has a dramatic arc like every other series on TV, and the fun factor is getting a little cloudy in Philadelphia.
While I may be losing interest in what was once one of my favorite shows on television, the timing couldn’t be more perfect now that AMC is about to release The Walking Dead, an entire TV series devoted to zombies! And to make it even better, it’s premiering on Halloween. Though in the age of DVR and On Demand, I’m sure everyone will be saving it for the next day in the office. Seriously, who wouldn’t be excited about a TV show about zombies? Especially from a network like AMC, which has knocked it out of the park with its original programming like Breaking Bad and Mad Men. A couple more hit series and HBO might have some serious competition for who wins the most Emmys every year.
