Want a hearty meal with an even heartier beer? Go to Gustav’s, the bar section of the Germanic Rhinelander restaurant in Portland! Above is a picture of the chicken schnitzel and fries…delicious, but decadent in the calorie department. The Happy Hour Menu is shockingly cheap, and the German beer selection is pages long. Get the potato pancakes served with sour cream and applesauce for a couple bucks and ask for an accompanying beer. The lady servers are wearing Dirndls, which makes me feel for them, but they look really cute. Maybe I just have a penchant for Dirndls and Lederhosen.
The Rhinelander accompanies large groups looking to have a good time. For all it’s cheesiness with the German theme, it’s fantastically fun to delve into a huge pot of fondue with several hungry friends!
