Local Duo Finally Translate The Language Of Love

Love Translated may be the most disturbing film you see all year that makes you howl with both derision and laughter in equal measures, thank god it comes from the mind of a Vancouverite then!

Ten North American males have ten days to find a partner for the rest of their lives, so they leap into the heart of Russia and never look back, the results, well they speak for themselves.

Love Translated shows that you don’t need network TV to push you into the deep end; you just need the desire and the heart to go over the edge. It’s not dating in the dark, it’s dating with eyes wide open and a dozen guys form around the world that have to get over the language barrier, cultural misunderstandings, the always gnarly age gap and all the while keep an eye out for gold diggers and grifters.

It’s shot beautifully, something that you expect from a film that has a team that has Emmy nominations, but the fact is it’s a proper look at the cultural divide by people who are straddling both sides of the pond. Boris Ivanov and Julia Ivanova both know Russia, so this isn’t a situation where we’re not just throwing everybody including the production crew into the deep end. They’re also Vancouverites bred to the bone, so they recognize the divide and where everybody elses heads are at.

The end result is a treat to watch and a reminder of the ways and the places we will all go to satisfy the cravings of the heart, no matter what language it speaks.
