Chris Milk, creator of The Wilderness Downtown for the Arcade Fire’s latest album, has another incredible interactive Web music video project. The Johnny Cash Project is a collaborative animated video for Cash’s “Ain’t No Grave,” made up of frames submitted by fans all over the world.
The project gives fans a frame of video to digitally rotoscope using an application built into the website. The artist can create a frame as abstract or as realistic as they choose. When played together, the resulting video is a trembling and pulsating animation made up of thousands of individually drawn frames.
I love the collaborative aspect of the project and the resulting video is a gorgeous and engaging tribute to an iconic musician.
