I was invited to a party for Kickstarter, the site where young aspiring entrepreneurs achieve capital through the promising of gifts and whatnot of investors, because my roommate was somewhat dating one of the employees. It was way nerdy. They were playing goofy Pitchfork rock and I didn’t enjoy myself.
Within a week or two it was a much-talked about site. My friends in Frankie Rose and the Outs got a van, and several other artists I know have got funding for different projects. It is amazing that it works so well, but the projects are often investment-worthy. Now my Facebook feed keeps lighting up with Kickstarter projects like I can afford to help them when I am drooling over vintage compressors on Ebay.
