I’ve watched bits of Jersey Shore and never really got the appeal. There are enough douchebags around and I sure don’t need to know who they are smooshing or what petty drama they are caught up in. Unfortunately, now Toronto feels the need to broadcast that we have douche bags too! A new TV pilot called Lake Shore (duh), is on the make.
The show throws a bunch of catty women, macho men and the gayist gay into a house together – sound like a party, or what? But where Lake Shore distinguishes itself from the rest is that each cast member is affiliated with their ethnic background – The Albanian, The Pole, The Jew, The Vietnamese…and so on.
The PR states, “Never before have such diverse backgrounds gone head to head, and the results will unveil just how inclusive Torontonians really are.” No matter what background they are, putting a bunch of self involved, attention seekers together will not produce inclusivity. What makes me sad is that they have managed to turn multiculturalism, one of the best things about Toronto, into a grotesque spectacle. We know where this is going and I won’t be watching.
