Book em’ Danno. Never more iconic words have been spoken, until now.
CBS has dig up the soul of Jack Lord and remade Hawaii Five-O for a new audience and it’s not that bad. If anything, it’s a refreshing post-modern take on an old fave that gives us wit, verve and the opportunity to just look at the scenery when the product is really, really bad.
It feels like you should be watching Lost, but you’re not. Even if Daniel Kim lurks behind ever door. It also feels like you should be watching Battlestar Galactica, but it’s just Grace Park cutting jokes as opposed to kicking gratuitous Cylon ass.
I’ll be honest, I couldn’t be bothered with either Scott Caan, who looks more like his old man every day, or Alex O’Loughlin, even if they are the two male leads. They hold their end of the story up well and it’s a story that’s more than just a splash of nostalgia and a witty script, it’s a vibe that thankfully ends up being more than the sum of its parts. Especially clear since they’ve not had to duck back into bringing in cameos form former stars (yet).
