Christmas film but maybe not for the whole family

Martin | December 29th, 2010

It’s time for a new film to add to my guilty Christmas film viewing of Elf, Bad Santa and Trading Places. But this time it’s less guilt, more horror.

Finnish director Jalmari Helander follows up his 2003 short film, a little confusingly of the same title, Rare Exports. In the depths of the Korvatunturi mountains, 486 metres deep, lies the closest guarded secret of Christmas. Suspended in an icy tomb lies a creature so unspeakably wicked, local townsfolk have sworn its existence to secrecy for centuries. Now, due to a team of unwitting American geologists, it’s about to be woken up.
