Deerhunter! The Band, Not the Film

In my constant quest for new music I stumbled upon the band Deerhunter (from Atlanta, Georgia), not to be confused with The Dear Hunter (another band), or The Deer Hunter the film. I am aware that they are not a new band, but have broken through to some levels of success with their newer work. The band lineup has changed intermittently due to the death of one of the band members, but they seem to have the backbone of a four piece, and then add other players to accommodate their sometimes dreamy sound.

Microcastles was the first album of theirs I listened to. Having listened, it is definitely worth it to see their growth and evolution by way of acquiring their whole catalogue. They seem to me a post-punk, sometimes shoe-gazing, very David Bowie/Brian Eno inspired. “Agoraphobia” is one of many gems on the album. In fact it would be nearer the truth to say that I LOVE each track. Some songs are soft and sweet, sad, hopeful, and extremely emotive. I would recommend them highly. I would start with Microcastles, and work your way backwards.
