I went to see Love & Other Drugs. And then, just a few days later, I paid to see the movie Burlesque. I’m not proud of the movies I saw, but hey, it’s too cold to do most of my favorite things — and the holidays are about overindulging in every cocktail, decorated cookie, and bad movie anyway.
I liked Love & Other Drugs. Jake Gyllenhaal was a decent prop for Anne Hathaway’s excellent abilities. Add a glass of red wine (thanks, Sundance, for being booze friendly!) and some fairly decent slap-stick, and the romcom was perfect for the season.
I’m not sure if it was the thrill of seeing Cher‘s face move, or Christina Aguilera‘s “surprised look” in every other scene, but I also enjoyed Burlesque. It was overacted and predictable, but the good moments —mostly Christina’s music video-like scenes — brought me immense pleasure.
