Yes. There is a Tradition of Spanish Psychedelic Pop

Little known fact: Just before Franco went to hell, LSD and weed arrived in Spain via Morocco, and for a brief moment everything was amazing. Flamenco bands started plugging in and jamming for hours, while at the more pop end groups like Los Canarios took the Rolling Stones and made it into the soundtrack for Madrid’s Guateque clubs.

Thelematicos represent both those traditions, and I’m so fucking glad of it.

Something in the Spanish psyche seems to prefer copying what’s going on in foreign rather than digging into the influences behind it and coming up with something equally as good or better, which is kind of the point of being in a band right?

Anyway, they did this mixtape for Vice over the break which I can’t stop listening to: Charles Manson, Silver Apples, Richard fucking Wagner and Earthless are all on there, as well as some forgotten hits from the Movida. Their record is pretty awesome too.
