A Love Story for the Clever Losers or Timeless Tale of Heartbreak

Many girls I know have been talking about the movie Blue Valentine and how it made them cry and how much they liked it.  Apparently Ryan Gosling is cute, and Michelle Williams has become a strangely spellbinding actress and may be remembered as one of the era’s “greats.” When I saw the trailer in the theater I was horrified by the Park Slope vibe (this is a prejudice that I think is really hard to explain to those not in Brooklyn, but Park Slope suggests less hip, down to earth, artisanal knitwear types that probably like steam punk and urban circuses). I was assured, however, that this vibe is a small part of Blue Valentine, which seems to be a melodrama for people floundering in their late 20s. Maybe my horror was not directed at Park Slope denizens but deep down that I would relate and maybe even cry.

God this singing and tap-dancing is just so unforgivably clever. I hate my generation.
