I catch the juiciest, most uncomfortable or outrageous 1 minute, 30-second clips of the Oprah Winfrey Show on the internet when the internet tells me they are worth watching. Actually, I keep up with a lot of shows that way. But I was babysitting the other day and the baby was in bed and I’d already read all the trashy magazines around the house, so I decided to take a nobody-else-is-here-to-judge-me peek at the tube. And I, ahem, was pretty into Oprah: Behind the Scenes.
First, it’s a brilliant way for Oprah to put together two shows at once: her 25th anniversary season and a sneak peak behind her 25th anniversary season. Second, it’s Oprah’s own (tightly controlled) reality show. It’s kind of like Vogue‘s The September Issue. There’s a whole bunch of crazy talented people putting together a production that viewers spend an hour passively enjoying. You get some of Oprah, but you get more of the people that have to guess what Oprah might like and want. At points, it’s certainly more interesting than the Oprah show itself.
