The Day We Let in TRANCE

Callan | February 24th, 2011

When Trance music first started to become acceptable in certain circles of snobby music know-it-alls with bands such as Blondes and Teengirl Fantasy, it was tasteful, and reminiscent of Tangerine Dream and Derrick May’s “Sueño Latino.” Flash forward one year and the current obsession is for tracks like Alice DeeJay’s “Better Off Alone,” Darude’s “Sandstorm” and the biggest, cheesiest epic euro-pop and trance classics. Recently Dipset made a mixtape where they rap over Trance samples entitled “Dipset Trance Party” as well as a mix by Bird Peterson entitled “Drankenstein” which does more or less the same thing. Rap music and artsy indie music is becoming ever-entangled these days as they are both vying for global pop supremacy while maintaining their underground stripes. Even Lil B concluded his New York set the other night playing a full M83 song and signing people’s hats.
