The ultimately satisfying chewy, salty and slurpy ramen noodle soup has been slow to catch on in Toronto. I’m not talking about the just add water kind but a handmade noodle and pork/seafood stock variety. Since acquiring a taste at the renown NYC restaurant Ippudo, I have been combing Toronto for something similar.
After some mediocre and downright disappointing ramen experiences I was overjoyed to find Kenzo Japanese Noodle House. What it lacks in ambiance, it makes up for tenfold in soupy goodness. I had a fantastic bowl of Tonkotsu ShoYu Ramen and the spicy soup, Netsu Ramen, ordered by my friend also had wonderful complex flavors. Kenzo uses a double soup base, sauces that are fermented in house and hand made noodles.
I am already craving another bowl of this addictive food — good thing Kenzo has opened a second location closer to me!
