Potentially this film could be a next breakthrough in the history of cinema… but it won’t as technologies are not enough to push the boundaries in art on a large-scale level.
Life in a Day is a 90-minute documentary story shot by YouTube users who spammed Scottish director Kevin MacDonald with more than 80.000 homemade videos during last summer. After the laborious process of cropping and fixing, that stream of global consciousness was crushed into a giant collage on the topic of “How did I spend 24th of June, 2010.”
MacDonald’s epic approach boggles the imagination but it is still disputable that this movie would be as touching and insightful as Night On Earth by Jim Jarmusch. At least the soundtrack, written by Vampire Weekend, offers some hope.
