I only fell for the British teen dram-edy Skins just a few weeks ago, but boy I fell hard. It’s everything you want out of a TV show: troubled, yet relatable, pretty people, romantic intrigue, and a little slapstick. It’s also everything you want out of a depiction of teen life: kids who look and act just as awkward as teenagers look and act.
Sure, these kids are having way more romantic rendezvous than most adults, and the parties they throw are outrageous in their decadence and destructive abilities, but these teens still come off as the still forming proto-adults they really are.
MTV has just launched their version of the immensely popular British show, and as can be expected it’s an easier-to-swallow version of the original. Everybody is a little bit prettier, characters fit their stereotypes a little more neatly, and America is up in arms about the sexual topics involving people under 18. All is as can be expected. I recommend calling up the original on Netflix ASAP.
