Dyed scarf from Upstate

This trend walks a fine line, gorgeous when it succeeds and garish when over done:  not any and all tie dyes will do. Recently I’ve been swooning over some gorgeous dye designers hitting the scene.

Hand dyed dress from Upstate

Upstate, a design team based in Brooklyn, uses super simple, highly saturated blue hues for dye patterns on flowy, amorphous pieces that look like they could be adapted to be worn as almost any article of clothing. The hand dyed look has an elegant but casual feel I just can’t get enough of.

New York designer, Shabd, keeps coming out season after season with incredible, ethereal dye patterns. Simple shapes and unusual, yet subtle colors make her line absolutely unique and completely beautiful. These aren’t the oversized t-shirts you dyed on a camping trip in fifth grade.
