I was so excited to get my hands on the new Dodos album, No Colors. This San Francisco band is one of my very favorites–local and otherwise. Their songs move. They make you want to go places. (Listen to the album on a train, and you’ll understand what I mean. I credit the kick drum.) They’re playing their home town (SF!) in April after appearances at SXSW and the plain old SW (Phoenix, Santa Fe). I can’t wait.
I like No Color. It’s not quite as catchy as records past, but I assume it will grow on me after a few weeks and a handful of repeated listens. And if that doesn’t do it, I know I’ll fall for the record when I see the Dodos play it at the Fillmore. OK, so the Fillmore is not quite as charming a venue as the small little mission bar where I last saw them, but I’m confident the band’s playing will permeate.
