OkCupid Explains Dating

I’ve never visited OkCupid in search of a mate - the site started after I was already paired up. But I find myself on OkCupid almost monthly checking their amazingly awesome OkTrends blog. The dating site is uniquely poised to collect data on what works and what doesn’t in attracting a mate. And instead of using that data only for evil (selling the information to advertisers would fall into this category), they’ve decided to use it for good by sharing their insights.

They’ve learned and shared a lot. A Survey of their findings: Women who pose with their animals don’t get as many male admirers as those who pose alone; Camera phone pics will not get you interest; if someone likes the taste of beer they are more likely to have sex on the first date; iPhone users get more action.

It’s fascinating. OkCupid is a dating site with a data-backed guide to help singles up their odds. More services could benefit from telling users exactly what they need to know.
