This film is difficult to discuss without revealing too much about it. I will say that it was one of the more disturbing films I’ve seen. The premise of the piece is that filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost decide to make a documentary about Nev Schulman (Ariel’s brother). Nev receives a painting of one of his published photographs from an eight year old art prodigy called Abby, who resides in Ishpeming, Michigan. It is thereafter that Nev “befriends” Abby through facebook.
After Abby and Nev have become facebook friends, Abby keeps sending her paintings of Nev’s photographs to him in New York. It is quite sweet actually. Through facebook, Nev also befriends her mother Angela, Angela’s husband, Abby’s brother, and Abby’s very attractive half-sister Megan who lives in Gladstone, Michigan.
It turns out Megan is a gifted veterinarian/songwriter/ dancer. And Nev and Megan forge a flirty relationship that sort of bleeds into an almost long-distance relationship, which includes phone calls, chat, etc. Nev seems to quite fancy her. Megan even sends him mp3′s of her music. He’s impressed. It is here that I cannot say anything further regarding the plot. You should watch it if you haven’t. It is a great commentary on how removed we sort of are because of technology, and facebook has really changed the way we interact with one another. But remember, we are all accessible. Watch this movie!
